(2001 note - Jeremy Harris is now in his second term as Honolulu's Mayor)

July 8, 1988

The Honorable Zhu Rong-ji

Mayor of Shanghai

Shanghai, China

Dear Mayor Zhu:

Greetings from The City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii. We are pleased to hear about the cordial invitation from the Shanghai State Art Museum to exhibit the works of Honolulu computer artist Dr. Rodney Chang.

With his unique form of art, Dr. Chang contributes to our city's cultural richness. We believe an introduction of his work to the Chinese people will also add a new cultural dimension that may stimulate new directions for contemporary Chinese artists. We hope that this sharing of art between Honolulu and Shanghai will further strengthen our bond of friendship and respect thereby draw us closer.

As Managing Director of the City and County of Honolulu, I ask that you accept the Rodney Chang Computer Art Exhibition at the Shanghai State Art Museum as a formal gesture of goodwill between our two cities.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Harris

Managing Director
