GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE RENAISSANCE 2001 WEBRING

RENAISSANCE 2001 is a project to
create a global Internet Art
Festival for the year 2001. Artists who believe that art can be a
positive evolutionary force have started to build a worldwide network
of LightHomes across the Internet. These pages will point to a future
path for art in the new electronic era, and act as a forum in which
RENAISSANCE 2001 will be developed. New members and collaborators in
every country are sought.
I can't begin to voice the sheer
excitement this brings: art free to
make an impact in the world, not shackled by fabricated market
constraints, and actually out there interacting, being a part of the
world and its evolution! And, to top it all off, a celebration of the
diversity!!

Country Without Borders is about
the birth of a new, "virtual land" which gradually transforms
our sense of reality into new physical meanings and entities, despite many differences -
in age, sex,
geographical location, language, background, and style. The exhibition interrogates
and explores
the dichotomy between the place of its origin (the Internet) and the real physical
environment.
This occupation of a new space will examine online's aesthetic meanings and explore
fundamental
structures of one of the first global electronic art societies. - R2001

LightHome Hawaii is a cyberstation of
Renaissance 2001 Webring that bridges Hawaii with the ring's mission of creating a
worldwide network of art sites that light a pathway for
art in the new electronic era. Unfamiliar to most, Hawaii is a crucial link in global
tele-
communications due to its isolated but strategic location in the middle of the Pacific
Ocean. It is therefore appropriate that new pathways of virtual art find its way from
these
islands of "Paradise" and join forces with other waves of emerging art,
coalescing into
virtual beacons that help guide all us pioneering spirits of the Information Age into
the next century of intraplanetary Cyberculture.

LightHome Hawaii's contribution to
Renaissance 2001's goal of being "a path for art in the new electronic era"
is the vrml galleries of its parent site, The Pygoya Webmuseum.
Here are over twenty individual galleries, each named after a major international city, as
homage to their greatness in real world global civilization. These galleries are also
accessed with the same vrml browser necessary for R2001 4-Corner World Gallery. To
visit these galleries go to the museum's Entrance or
directly to the upstairs Elevator. Review International Cities -paid homage for their cultural
greatness. LightHome Hawaii also designed and constructed R2001's vrml gallery
